The aim of the project was to create an AR application to advertise a classic book. So, for our project, we chose the book, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. As we both were great fans of JK Rowling and magic, of course, we decided to make a project that could feel magical, when viewed by a user.

On the right, a demo video showing the main functionalities can be watched.

By pointing the camera towards the front cover of the book, a scene from the book appears. You can interact with the scene by pressing the buttons on the book cover.

About

By pressing the "Push" button, a wand appears and starts talking to the user, briefly describing the book. By pressing the translation buttons, every sound / text is translated in the foreign language. By pressing the translate button twice, the language switches back to english.

In our front cover scene, both pre-made models and models designed by us were used. Some of them are animated while others are still. In particular, Serious Black is animated, three dementors are flying around the scene close to six lamp posts whose lights flicker as they move. An ambient sound of flickering lights was added to make the scene more realistic. A particle system was added on top of Voldemort's wand to simulate the Avada Kadavra spell. The models made by us were the Wand model and the Nimbus 2000 model.

The HP Theme Song can be heard all throughout the usage of the application.

Once you flip the book, all the audios besides the HP theme song stop. On the back cover, a set of reviews is present. Through the "next review" button you can go from one review to another, both textual reviews and video reviews. Whichever review you are on, by pressing one of the translation buttons every text and audio is translated into either Hindi or Italian. Now you can either use the "next review" button to continue in the foreign language or press the button again to translate everything back to english.

Where to find the project

The GitHub repository of our project is public, so anybody can access the code by downloading a zip file of the project, extract it and start using it on unity. Here’s the link to the repository:

Once decompressed, the ZIP file contains the main scene in the Assets folder.
